Sarah Murdoch (born Sarah O'Hare on May 31, 1972), was born in London, England, and grew up in Sydney, Australia. She went to school at The McDonald College, a performing arts school in Sydney, where she studied ballet. After being told by the ballet master, Allan Cross, that she was too fat and would never make it as a ballerina, she changed direction. She had apparently not realized her beauty until this point in her life.

No longer needing to aspire to the conservative role for ballet she cut her hair very short and pierced her ears. People now saw her as stunning and her modeling career began.

She succeeded Eva Herzigova as the Wonderbra model, appearing in its international ad campaign.

She has also appeared in ads for Revlon and Ralph Lauren, as well as the 1999 and 2003 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

In 1999, she married Lachlan Murdoch, son of Australian media mogul Rupert Murdoch. The couple live in Sydney, Australia and have two sons, Kalan, born in 2004, and Aidan, born on May 6, 2006.

Ms Murdoch is heavily engaged in assisting not-for-profit arts and charitable bodies, where her name and connections add gravitas and fund-raising capacity.

She was appointed International Ambassador of The Australian Ballet in 2004 and became a director of the ballet in February 2006.

She is also Ambassador of the Murdoch Children's Research Institute (appointed in 2000) and a member of its development board.

Ms Murdoch is Patron of Australia's National Breast Cancer Foundation and addressed Australia's National Press Club about the activities of the Foundation on 4 October 2006. The address was televised Australia-wide by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

It's the toughest race in show business, but Sarah Murdoch said she was excited to be taking the baton from Jessica Rowe and running the next leg of Channel Nine's Today's race against the timeslot leader Channel Seven's Sunrise in the morning TV steeplechase.

The 34-year-old Bonds girl and daughter-in-law of Rupert Murdoch will take over as Today co-host on December 9 when Rowe vacates the chair for six months' maternity leave.

Murdoch is only scheduled to do the first month, with the permanent partner to Karl Stefanovic yet to be announced.

The model wife of media identity Lachlan Murdoch, charity spokeswoman and mother of two small children is a newsmaker herself and has moved in high-powered circles. "I have this remarkable opportunity to meet and talk to some of those fascinating people who make the news," she said of her Today job.

She said she had always loved live TV. "When I've had the opportunity to do it, I've felt very comfortable. It's an exhilarating business," she said.
