Charles
Fey
Slots historians widely agree that
the first slot machine was created by a California
resident by the name Charles Fey in 1895. Fey
created a machine featuring three spinning reels
with a total of five symbols: diamonds, spades,
hearts, horseshoes and a Liberty Bell. The first
slot machine was called after the 'Liberty Bell'
symbol. Referred to as the prototype of all modern
American slots, the Liberty Bell had a cast iron
case and originally featured cast iron feet with
toes. While casino operators originally installed
the machines as a way to entertain the girlfriends
of high-stakes players, they soon realized that
the slots revenue matched that of the traditional
table games. By the mid-1990's, slots mania has
already taken over the world!
