SUGARTIME goes to BOMBAY
Following
2 successful national tours and a long line of
popular shows, Sydney’s premiere vintage
entertainers SUGARTIME bring you their 2nd Birthday
event with an exotic, unique and highly provocative
genre-concoction BOLLYWOOD, BEEHIVES & BURLESQUE
on 29th December at the OXFORD ART FACTORY.
‘Mixing
burlesque with Bollywood could be seen by some
as a bit of a scandal, considering traditional
Bollywood dance numbers do not even feature a
kiss, let alone strip tease! But if you look at
the Indian dance clips now, they’re far
more
risqué than MTV,’ says Mr Mai Tai.
Sydney’s
newest live music venue, Oxford Art Factory in
Darlinghurst has a stage big enough to finally
allow Sugartime to host their largest extravaganza
yet.
‘Our
inspiration for this show comes largely from the
films coming out of Bombay in the 1960s and 1970s,
full of kitsch rainbow colour sets, psychedelic
bar scenes and rock ‘n roll influences.
The Go-Go Army will premier at Bollywood, Beehives
and Burlesque a routine full of surprises,’
says Kaspia Darling who is producing the night.
Top
pick of burlesque talent for the event will include
Sydney’s newest Bollywood dance troupe The
Go-Go Army created from the cream of the current
burlesque scene, including Kaspia, Mishka la Mink
& La Vivianna Tulsa and Miss Vesper White.
Long time scene-queen of Indian dance Sheena Miss
Demeanor will also appearsolo and with Bindia
Sparkle, as will the 5- member traditional Bollywood
troupe Melange. Swing kitten Kelly Doll and the
recently discovered sensation Vesper White who
has been described as the ‘Australian Betty
Page’ will show their versatility. The one
and only Kira Hula La and MC extroidinare Renny
Kogers off the boat from India!!!
SUGARTIME
believes this will be the first ever Sydney event
in which Bollywood and Burlesque meet and will
compliment well the Indian Film Festival and the
recent Bollywood film poster exhibition in Sydney.
‘It
will also be ten times more exciting than Bollywood
‘Dancing with the Stars’ and most
thrilling of all, it is LIVE,’ adds Kaspia
Darling.
