Megan
Gale

Megan Gale is an Australian supermodel and actress
who has achieved considerable fame, first in Italy
but now equally so in her native Australia.
Career
Born
in Perth, Western Australia, Gale is of half-British,
half-Polynesian heritage and is the youngest of
three children. Gale achieved her great fame and
success rather late for a model.
Gale
has been described in an article as "Italy's
hottest star since Sophia Loren" and one
of her hobbies is playing the Aboriginal instrument,
the didgeridoo.
Modelling
At
twenty-four, while studying at university, she
won a modeling competition and appeared in a series
of advertisements for the Italian telecommunications
commercials, Omnitel (now Vodafone Italy); she
appeared in the company's advertising from 1999
until nowadays. She was also retained by the Australian
Tourist Commission in 2003 as 'their face of Australia
in Italy'.
Gale
has modeled for Italian fashion houses such as
Genny and favors many Australian designers, such
as Akira Isogawa, Sass & Bide, and Alex Perry.
Recently she was the fashion commentator for the
Australian television awards, the Logies. Currently
she is the face of the upmarket Australian department
store David Jones. Gale's appearances on the catwalk
in the famous annual fashion parades are extremely
popular and she has helped to raise David Jones's
profile to the younger market and trendy fashion
designers.
Acting
She
has also tried her hand at acting. She played
herself in the movie, Vacanze di Natale and received
top billing. She was Viviana in Stregata Dalla
Luna and spoke entirely in Italian. She also won
a part in the science-fiction movie Stealth which
was shot in Sydney and was released in theatres
in 2005. On November 30th, 2007, AICN reported
that she had gotten the part of Wonder Woman in
the upcoming George Miller movie version of Justice
League.
Television
In
2005, Gale became a guest reporter for Channel
9 travel show Getaway
from October 2005 to June 2006.
She
also worked with Mike Munro as co-host of the
Australian documentary TV show What
a Year, which first aired on the Nine Network
on October 2, 2006, and was made up of nine episodes.
In 2007 they were replaced by Bert
Newton and Julia Zemiro and the show has since
been axed.
Gale
also became the National Ambassador for Kids Help
Line in February, 2005.
Personal
life
Gale
was previously in a four year relationship with
Italian model and singer Marzio Canevarolo. She
also briefly dated 33-year-old Australian model
Josh Clapp. She is now in a relationship with
Andy Lee, the other half of comedy duo Hamish
and Andy. (Credit:

MEGAN
Gale fought back tears tonight as 600 A-list stars
gave Hollywood's new Wonder Woman a standing ovation.
A-list celebrities including Delta Goodrem, fiancé
Brian McFadden, Natalie Bassingthwaite, Hamish
Blake and Megan’s beau Andy Lee gathered
with VIPS and national media to officially farewell
Gale from the David Jones runway as she took her
penultimate walk for the retailer.
While
her last official walk takes place next week at
the Melbourne’s media launch, Gale was celebrating
an international modelling career that has spanned
fifteen-years.
The
theme for the collections launch was 'A Japanese
Story' and guests were ushered into a Dojo-inspired
auditorium, framed in striking black and white
Japanese silk screens.
As
expected, Perth models shone with nine of forty
models flown from the west coast.
Flame-haired
Tiah Eckhardt flown from New York especially for
the event.
After
the show Eckhardt plans to head home to Perth
for a few weeks of well-earned sunshine and R&R
with friends and family. Here she’ll regroup
and make some important career decisions. “I’ve
got many opportunities to do what I want to do
in modelling around the world,” said Eckhardt,
revealing that she had some exciting opportunities
in LA, London and New York.
Ms
Eckhardt, 21, has not walked for David Jones in
two years but was excited to be back. Her highlights
included Alex Perry and Willow “because
they are cut so beautifully.”
“It’s
a really huge compliment that I have been asked
to walk tonight.”
Eckhart
joined fellow WA models, Georgi Aberdein, Paris
Fontana, Bronwyn Whitehorn, Simone Kerr, Pip Bingham,
Lauren Brown, Erin Thomasz and Stacey Monaghan.
Gale
took her final bow in elegant bright fuscia Akira
designed dress, a fitting finale for the Japanese
themed evening. Artificial snow fell across the
stage, but the Isogawa winter was anything but
bleak - showcasing a breathtaking collection of
silk dresses and gowns in block-out crimson, fuscia,
ultra-violet and canary yellow.
Other
highlights of the 30 minute feast of fashion included
designs from Willow, Alex Perry, and Fleur Wood.
And the shoes. Christian Louboutin, Mui Mui, Sergio
Rossi – eyes were boggling and mouths were
watering.
This
ends Gale’s role as fashion ambassador for
the David Jones family – she continues on
as a brand ambassador but her sights are set firmly
on a career in Hollywood.
